Delete Your Account & Data
Effective date: April 19, 2026You have the right to delete your Miru Movies account and associated personal data at any time. This page explains what can be deleted, how to request deletion, and what happens after you do.
Quick version: email [email protected] from the address associated with your account (or include your user ID / invite code) and we will delete your account and data within 30 days.
1. What Gets Deleted
When you request account deletion, we remove the following from our systems:
- Your profile and preferences (display name, email if provided, language, favourite genres).
- Your swipe history (likes, dislikes, skips).
- Your watchlist.
- Your match sessions and any matches you were part of.
- Your partner links / invite codes.
- Any feedback you have submitted, on request.
- Your device-scoped identifiers and authentication records with our backend.
2. How to Request Deletion
Option A — Email us directly
Send an email to [email protected] with the subject line "Miru Movies – Data Deletion Request" and include:
- The email address associated with your Miru Movies account, or
- Your user ID / invite code (visible in the app's profile section), if you signed in anonymously.
- A brief statement confirming you want your account and data deleted.
We may ask you to verify ownership of the account (for example, by replying from the email address on file or by confirming details from within the app) before processing the request. This is to prevent unauthorised deletion.

Option B — Remove specific data from within the app
Without deleting your full account, you can also:
- Remove individual items from your watchlist.
- Leave an active match session to stop sharing swipes with a partner.
- Uninstall the app — note that uninstalling alone does not delete your server-side data; use Option A for that.
3. What Happens After You Request Deletion
- We acknowledge your request by email, typically within a few business days.
- We verify that the request is coming from the account owner.
- We delete or irreversibly anonymise your account and the data listed in Section 1, across our primary databases and caches.
- We confirm completion by email.
The full process is completed within 30 days of a verified request, in line with GDPR and CCPA requirements.
4. Data We May Retain
In limited circumstances, small amounts of data may be retained after deletion:
- Server logs: raw request logs (including IP addresses and timestamps) are retained for up to 90 days for security and debugging, then deleted automatically. They cannot practically be individually erased before that window.
- Analytics and crash data: aggregated, non-identifying analytics and crash reports collected by Firebase Analytics / Crashlytics may persist according to Firebase's retention policies. You can reset your Firebase instance ID from the app or via device settings.
- Legal obligations: if we are legally required to keep certain records (e.g. for fraud prevention or tax), we will retain only the minimum necessary and only for as long as required.
- Backups: data may remain in encrypted, access-controlled backups for a short period until those backups roll off (typically within 30 days), after which it is permanently overwritten.
5. Deleting Your Firebase Sign-In Account
If you signed in using Firebase Authentication (e.g. Google, email), your sign-in identity is managed by Firebase in addition to Miru Movies. When we delete your Miru Movies account we also remove the associated Firebase Auth record we created. However, if you want to separately revoke Google sign-in permissions, you can do so via your Google Account settings.
